Although it may seem unlikely, the most powerful sexual organ in your body is your brain. This is where your feelings and thoughts are created and stored, and where sexual desire is experienced before any physical contact takes place.
Dr Elna Rudolph, medical doctor, sexologist and Femagene® sexual health expert, states on her blog that sexual arousal begins in the mind; arousal can begin by just thinking about sex, which brings us back to the first point, that the brain is the ultimate sex organ (http://mysexualhealth.co.za/7-ways-brain-health-can-improve-your-sex-life). Dr Rudolph goes on to explain that if a woman’s mind is distracted with what she still has to do during the day, or if she is feeling unappreciated by her partner the chances are she will not be “in the mood” for sex.
Dr Rudolph goes onto explain the many reasons to include more sex into your life:
- Sex makes you feel good. While engaging in sex your body releases dopamine which is a neurotransmitter that triggers the reward centre of the brain. This creates a feel good sensation throughout your body.
- Sex can relieve small amounts of pain. Having a headache is no longer a reason not to have sex. “A research study, conducted in Germany, showed that 60% of migraine sufferers who had sex during an episode reported pain relief,” says Dr Rudolph.
- Sex can calm you down. After engaging in sex you can feel calmer and ready to take on any stressful activity that comes your way. This calm state comes about through the lowering of your blood pressure after sex.
- Sex later in life can boost brain health. “Although eating correctly, and engaging in activities such as crossword puzzles to stimulate the brain is all beneficial for brain health – research has shown that sex later in life (over the age of 50) can help increase brain health and ward off signs of dementia,” says Dr Rudolph.
Important to any sexual encounter is feeling confident not only in your mind, but also in your body. Wearing your favourite sexy slip, dabbing a touch of perfume on the back of your neck and using Femagene’s® water-based, pH balanced lubricant is the ideal way to get yourself physically into the right headspace, and the Femagene® intimate, refreshing wipes are perfect for helping to keep you confident, fresh and odour-free for the night ahead.
